NJ / NY / PA State Inspection
New Jersey Inspection Program
Motor Vehicle inspection in New Jersey is required every two years. 1995 and older vehicles are required to be dynamometer tested. 1996 and newer vehicles are equipped with OBDII systems that allow emissions inspections to be performed with a data link connector. Any vehicle in NJ that fails a state emissions inspection can only be repaired by the vehicle owner or a licensed NJ ERT (Emission Repair Technician) STS has over 20 convenient locations that can perform inspections or re-inspections with licensed NJ emission repair technicians.
New York, Safety and Emissions Testing
New York State tests motor vehicles annually for safety and emissions. The method of testing varies from county of registration. Standing emission testing including dynamometer testing are conducted in Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland counties including NYC and it surrounding boroughs for vehicles 1995 and older. OBDII emission inspection (Accessed through the vehicles data link) is conducted state wide for vehicles 1996 and newer.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania passenger vehicles require annual Safety and Emission testing. 1995 and older vehicles in Pennsylvania are required to be dynamometer tested for emissions. 1996 and newer vehicles in all regions require an OBDII systems test for emissions.
